OTHER FAMILY VISAS

Who can apply?

Aged Dependent Relative

If you are an aged single person and have an Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident relative living in Australia whom you have been dependent on for at least 3 years, you could be eligible for this category of visa.

Your relative must sponsor you and an Assurance of support will be required.

Remaining relative

If you are the brother, sister or child (or step equivalent) of an Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident living in Australia and you have no other near relatives other than those living in Australia, you could be eligible for this category of visa.

Your relative must be eligible to sponsor you and an Assurance of support will be required.

Carer

If you have an Australian relative with a medical condition who requires assistance for at least 2 years to attend to the practical aspect of daily life and you are willing and able to give him/her substantial and continuing assistance, then you could be eligible for a carer visa.

Your relative must sponsor you and an Assurance of support will be required.

What can I do with any of these visas?

All the above visas are permanent visas. They entitle you to work and study in Australia, to access Australia's public medical assistance scheme (Medicare) and access certain social security payments from Centrelink (beware of waiting periods).

You may also be eligible for citizenship provided you meet the 4 year residency requirement and other legal criteria.
